Pulling into Roma Termini Station was a breath of fresh air. Reuniting with our luggage after five long days without it, we couldn’t get from the train to the hotel fast enough. Changing into my long lost clothes left me feeling as if the trip just began. Being in a major city was an ideal change of pace after leaving laid back Amalfi Coast. With only two days to take Rome we set out not wanting to miss a minute….

Totally being tourists we took the offer for the big red bus tour! Unlike London the big red bus took forever to arrive and was super crowded and hot. Despite paying for the bus tour we opt to hit the streets of Rome on foot. Literally with a map in had we visited every main attraction circled all the while getting lost. In the midst of searching for one attraction we would stumble upon the next. Roaming through Rome we managed to visit Altare Della Patria, Pantheon, Piazza Novona, and the Spanish Steps all in the first few hours of actually being in the ancient city. Leaving the Spanish Steps we walked right into “the Trident,” which are the three major luxury shopping streets of Rome. Nonchalantly strolling down Via Condotti passing some of my favorite stores, I had no desire to look at clothes let alone shop. Having had to do so unwillingly in Amalfi Coast left me numb to any purchase. Eventually walking back towards our hotel I was eager to rest my feet. As a runner I’m ashamed to admit exactly how tired all the walking made me. Getting to see all the cities history honestly made every step well worth it. Thank God for Havaiana’s!

Dinner at Baccano was delightful, choosing a later reservation reminded me of home. Like New Yorkers most Italians dine late and nothing beats a great meal before a night out on the town. Before I get into the night I can’t forget to mention my main course. As a true foodie I would like to comment on how spectacular the Yellowfin Tuna Filet was. Mouth watering I’m simply getting hungry writing about it. I appreciated the brasserie like atmosphere at Baccano, it was the perfect restaurant to begin the night. Leaving dinner we made our way to a local bar in the area called Salotto 42. Walking seemed to be a great idea until our six inch heels hit the cobble stone. The stiletto struggle made arriving to Salotto all the better. Once seated I couldn’t help but notice how much it reminded me of one of my favorite bars Gold Bar in New York. The lighting was dim and the atmosphere was too cool. I highly recommend the Pink Ginger… Salud!

Rising with the sun we set out early devoting our day to both the Colosseum and the Vatican. Arriving to the Colosseum the long line was almost as ridiculous as the heat. Joining a tour group to skip the wait and hassle we entered the Colosseum quickly. Later ditching our tour group we explored the iconic structure at our own pace. The banning of selfie sticks didn’t stop us from taking a million videos and photos. Finally being inside of the astonishing structure was all to surreal for me. I literally couldn’t stop snapping pictures. Due to the heat we stayed for as long as we could but after a while it became unbearable. Hopping in a taxi we headed straight to the Vatican. Pulling up to the home of the Pope it was like déjà vu. Like the Colosseum the lines were horrific. With no openings for the Vatican Gardens for the day we decided to keep it cute and take some area photos then be on our way. Having had enough site seeing for one day we headed to a late lunch at Ginger. A great recommendation from a helpful local. A healthy lunch at Ginger followed by champagne and macaroons from Ladurée we were back in our hotel sheets stuffed. For our final feast in Rome we dined at a quaint yet sophisticated restaurant called Le Tamerici. The service was phenomenal and so was the truffle pasta. It was the perfect ending to our Italian tour.

Leaving dinner we trotted down the street to Trevi Fountain. Unfortunately it’s been under construction for the past couple months. The Trevi Fountain is notably one of the most famous fountains in the world. Made popular from films its known for the traditional coin throwing ritual. Feeling as if I were in a scene from a movie I turned my back towards the fountain, pulled a coin from my purse and clutched it tightly in the palm of my right hand. Making my sincerest wish I tossed the coin over my left shoulder. I smiled hearing my coin touch the water… Rome couldn’t have been more beautiful!
