Miami is always a good idea but it’s an even greater idea to visit during the fall. In fact, for the past five years it’s where I choose to celebrate Halloween. Not only is the weather ideal, I find both flights and hotels tend to be inexpensive during this season. Despite the obvious change of color in the trees and the crisp New York air, my annual Miami trip serves as the official end to my Summer.
Landing at Miami International Airport I immediately go into “Beach Mode.” To date nothing beats smelling the sweet tropical air of the city upon arrival. Checking into the Thompson Hotel I felt as if I stepped into my second home. Typically when traveling to cities I frequently visit I almost always use the same accommodations. As a former employee of Sixty Thompson Hotel in New York City I was delighted to hear about the opening of its South Beach location. When the time came to book it was a no brainer as to where I would stay during my next weekend get-a-way to Miami. I’ll admit having worked for a hotel in the past I tend look at the service from a completely different viewpoint then the average guest. My judgement on both the atmosphere and more importantly the customer service can be a bit critical. With that being said I’m more than pleased to say from now on the Thompson is definitely where I will be residing on my visits to South Beach. I highly suggest checking out the Thompson Hotel if ever you decide to visit Miami. Until then check out my full review on Trip Advisor!
Celebrating Halloween in Miami has always been super exciting for me. Everyone in the city seems to enjoy dressing up for the holiday even more than I do. The warm October weather allows for the costume of your choice without having to worry about any additional ad on’s. This year I decided to go as a Spartan Soldier, Belly Dancer and Angel. Yes, I literally had to pack three different costumes. Each night called for a different look and that makes it even more exciting. Unlike most cities in Miami Halloween is celebrated the entire weekend. Although I prefer more of a lounge atmosphere Miami hosts a few massive nightclubs. One of my favorite nightclubs being club Story and another low key spot called Mynt are a guaranteed good time. Regardless of your social preference I will assure you that while experiencing Miami you’ll end up at one of its nightclubs at some point. Just go with the flow!
Aside from partaking in the night scene a typical weekend get-a-way for me consists of a few daytime activities/adventures along with dinner and finally some relaxation. Since my last visit to Miami I’ve been dying to do an airboat tour of the Everglades. Despite my fear of getting eaten by an alligator, finally getting to tour Alligator Alley at Gator Park was thrilling. Since the start to every night usually begins with a reservation, I must say every restaurant that I attended this past weekend was simply delicious. I can’t decide on which place I preferred most Cecconi’s at Soho House or SeaGrape at the Thompson. Regardless, both places were literally mouth watering and I would highly recommend either. After the amazing meals, clubs and activities one is sure to be exhausted, which leaves room for the true purpose of every vacation and that’s relaxation. Finding time to relax during an intense weekend of fun is essential. Enjoying everything from morning yoga which the Thompson offers to hotel guests to lounging on the beach. Personally I prefer a cocktail and nosh poolside, what’s your idea of relaxing?
After any eventful weekend in South Beach the drastic change of climate always amazes me. In such a short flight you literally go from hot and humid to dry and cool. Landing back in New York proves to be a humbling encounter. The sense of returning home usually comes over me once I get a glance of the skyline. Feeling as if the trip never took place, while unpacking the grains of sand hidden in my suitcase always reminds me …Miami!
